Peeling and Deveining Shrimp

There’s no reason to be scared of peeling and deveining shrimp.

It’s supper easy.

Save a few dollars and put it towards more shrimp by doing it yourself.

This method, from Sunset Magazine, will show you how easy it is.

As shown in the video, use some kitchen scissors to cut the shell over the back of the shrimp.

Gently pull it apart.

Using a paper towel to keep it from slipping away, remove the vein – which is actually the intestinal track.

Personally, I like the look of leaving the tail.  Especially in Paella or for grilling.

It also gives you something to hold on to. But of course, it all depends on how you’re using it.

Just be sure to rinse them before cooking and make sure you get the whole vein.

With only a few extra minutes of work, you’ll be peeling and deveining your shrimp like a pro.
